How many shades of green are there in a New Zealand forest?  This painting was inspired by a trip to Eves Valley a tiny remnant of native forest full of every kind of fern from the lacy filigree kind to translucent sheets shaped like a moose's antlers. Fantails and robins flit in and out of the shadows, they don't seem bothered by visitors.  In the foreground white orchids cluster amongst the emerald green leaves.  I saw these on a trip to the Abel Tasman National Park - their sweet scent reached me long before I could see them.
